My mother and boyfriend often make fun of my obsession with subscription boxes. Whether it’s food, regular clothes, workout clothes, or even dates, there’s probably a subscription box out there that I’ve found and tried. I hadn’t thought about how many subscription boxes for book lovers there are until my mother sent me some books she got from her own boxes last week.
Who doesn’t love #bookmail? Here are some of the best options if you’re itching to try some subscription boxes for book lovers yourself.
This was the first subscription box for book lovers that my mother introduced me to. It’s also the original subscription box for book lovers in general!
Harry Scherman founded the Book of the Month Club in New York City in 1926. He wanted to bring the best new books to readers across the United States. In its 10th year, the Club selected Gone with the Wind by unknown author Margaret Mitchell. In its 25th year the Club selected J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye. We all know how those books turned out. So obviously those judges know what they’re doing when it comes to picking good books.
This is a great way to discover new books you wouldn’t have found on your own. My favorites have been Behold the Dreamers, Circling the Sun, and The Sun Is Also a Star.
You can get your first book for $9.99 + a free tote bag when you join using my referral link. After that, you get a book of your choice for $14.99 per month. There’s usually a selection of five books to choose from. You can also add extra books to your shipment for $9.99 each. Skip any month you want, and you won’t be charged. There is always free shipping.
This was the next subscription box my mother introduced me to. And it was only a few weeks ago! She could tell I had been having a rough time, so I came home to discover three different books that didn’t interest her! One of them – Song of the Current – was from Uppercase.
Uppercase has brand new, hardcover young adult books. I love YA novels. So much so that I realized I few years ago that I need to branch out. But sometimes a young adult novel is the only thing that can get me out of my funk. I think Uppercase will be the subscription box I turn to whenever that’s the case.
What’s really exciting about Uppercase is that every month, the book will either be signed by the author or come with a bookplate signed by the author. No other subscription box for book lovers does that. Uppercase also includes other items with the book. The one my mom sent me had a cute tote bag that I’ve been using for my groceries now. There was also a pin, although I haven’t used that item yet.
If you like interactive experiences, this subscription box is also for you. The box includes a bookmark with a few page numbers. These pages each have a special code that you can use to unlock exclusive content, such as videos from the author and additional backstories. I didn’t use this with Song of the Current. I find that stuff sort of distracting. But maybe you’ll enjoy it more!
A book with the exclusive content is $23 per month plus $6.50 shipping. A box with just the book (still signed and with the interactive experience) is $13.99 a month plus $6.50 shipping.
My mother offered to pay for this one for me, but I declined. At the time, I had too many other books on my to-read list to justify adding more. But now I regret that decision. Mainly because there is a Stars Hollow version of this subscription box, and I am a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan!
LitCube pairs hand-picked reads with high quality literary-themed products. If you only read traditionally published books then this subscription box may not be for you. A few of their books are indie published, and small & medium press published. Functional items included with the book are usually Journals, scarves, socks, jewelry, bookmarks, pens, pins, magnets, candles, lip balms, pencil bags, etc.
Now for the part that excites me. A Stars Hollow Monthly Subscription! Stars Hollow Monthly features 3-5 products which are inspired by the Gilmore Girls and the fictional town of Stars Hollow. There aren’t always books in this box, but when there are I’m sure they are one of Rory’s favorite reads!
Lit-Cube is $34.95 with free shipping in the US. Stars Hollow Monthly is $34.90 per month with free shipping within the US.
This was one I found rather than one my mother introduced me to. It’s a subscription box for female entrepreneurs. Which means it’s right up my alley right now as a blogger!
Each box is packed with 4-6 items to inspire you and help you and your business grow…like books, planners and chic office supplies. You’ll also get access to an online course or tutorial each month, along with props to help you succeed! I’m sure all of the books are about personal growth and professional development. Perfect for all of us who like to be trained on a variety of topics that you can apply in life and business – which I’m assuming is all book lovers!
You can subscribe month-to-month (cancel anytime) at $39.95, or you can pre-pay for 3 months at a time for $11985. You can also pre-pay on an annual plan for $439.45, at which point you’ll get one box free. Shipping is $6.
